Have you ever had a profound moment that changed you forever? I have. I was in my office working one afternoon and suddenly it was as though I was standing in a football stadium in the center of the field and all the thousands of light bulbs came on at exactly the same time and shined directly on me.
I can remember sitting at my desk and realizing that I put so much pressure on myself that I had become someone who is not me. It was a defining moment for me. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and decided to become me and I have never looked back. I am so confident and happy in who I am today.
I am a natural people pleaser and I realized that I was putting pressure on myself to live up to what I thought others expectations of me were. That pressure of always trying to measure up is now gone. I understand the power of accepting who I am now and liking me! And once I took off the mask of trying to be who I thought I should be, I discovered that others liked me for who I truly am.
That day was so powerful. I realized I constantly remained in a state of stress in my job and for what reason? Putting pressure on myself was one the main causes. Once I let that pressure go of being someone else, what a change it made. I needed to like me and appreciate all I had accomplished at this point in my life. I was so busy trying to become someone that I forgot who I really was. And having come to that realization, I have also learned that the pressure was coming from within and not from others. That was an amazing lesson to have learned and I only wish that I had learned it sooner.
Since then, I have more confidence in myself because I don’t give into the pressure that I did before. I know who I am and what I am capable of doing. Today, I rarely step into a situation full of fear. I go into it knowing who I am with the confidence to perform as I need to.
If you can tap into this, it will change your life. Knowing who you are settles you down and allows you to see clearly ahead. So much peace and joy will settle on you as you live each day to the fullest.
I encourage you to take time to evaluate yourself and figure out if you are falling into the same trap I fell into. Once I got ahold of this truth it literally changed my life. First of all, I know I am good enough as I am and secondly, I know I have what it takes to overtake anything that might come my way.
Each morning as I prepare to start my day, I look into the mirror and say to myself “I am going to be Chantell today and see what happens!” I encourage you wherever you are in your life, young or old, it is time to stand your ground and like the person you see in the mirror. Accept yourself and then take action and see what happens! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Below are some tips to be the best you:
- Accept yourself right where you are, right now, good or bad.
- Decide that you will take immediate action to be you and no one else.
- Take time to work on you and to get some things right.
- Once you start, never look back.
- Expect great things as you move forward.
