Throughout all of our lives, there are touchstones – places, moments or traditions that we go back to, time and time again. Centering moments that connect us to our faith, our memory, and to our future as friends and family carry them forward. Many of those moments are represented during the holiday season. Christmas with Waldorf is one of those touchstones for me, and for Waldorf University.
Every year at this event, our music students put on a fantastic holiday show filled with talented vocal and musical performances. Year after year, the artistry and beautiful music strip away the artifice and materialism of the secular holiday and reunite me with the sacred. The readings uplift the spirit. Familiar carols bring back sweet memories.
This year, our Department of Music invited area high school choirs to participate in this event. The local high schools were Forest City High School, West Fork High School, Algona High School, Lake Mills High School, West Hancock High School and Garner-Hayfield Ventura High School.
New music stirs the soul. The effect was magnified this year watching such a large range of students performing. Some students were performing for us for the first time, marking their first experience with Waldorf University. And other members of the performance were Waldorf seniors, participating in their last Christmas at Waldorf performance. It made the experience even more precious.
Bravo to everyone behind this year’s extraordinary performance. It truly represented the spirit of the season.
Please take time to recognize and enjoy the touchstones in your own life during this busy holiday season. I hope they keep you centered, connect you to your faith, and bring you peace.
