Hero Behind The Hero Scholarship Open

Our heroes are an important aspect of everyday life. They are our husbands, wives, best friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and neighbors. Everyday they put their life on the line to help others. It is the first responders that are the ones called to help in difficult situations, putting their life on the line, saving one life at a time to help everyone else live their lives the best way possible.

There are also sacrifices that the families of first responders and military members make, including late night worrying, single parent duty and the times when you just hope they walk back through the door. We call these our Hero Behind the Hero. They are the husbands, wives and children behind our military members and first responders.

Waldorf College recognizes the sacrifices made by family members of America’s military men and women, and public safety personnel including firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMT’s and dispatchers. A hero can be defined in numerous ways and often make many sacrifices throughout the time of service. Waldorf College chooses to assist the spouses and children of these heroes by offering a scholarship for online tuition.

Every October, Waldorf selects two students to award the Hero Behind the Hero scholarship. This scholarship covers up to $16,500 in one Waldorf College online degree program. One scholarship will be awarded to the spouse or child of an active duty or National Guild military man or woman. The second scholarship will be award to the spouse or child of public safety personnel. Waldorf accepts applications for the Hero Behind the Hero scholarship beginning July 1 through September 30.

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must have a high school transcript or GED, be available to begin coursework within 90 days of the date of the award, maintain a 2.0 undergraduate grade point average or 3.0 for graduate, and remain in good stating throughout the degree program. Current Waldorf College students must already have met these requirements.
